Bent County Media Release / Regarding Suicide
On August 12, 2014, at approximately 0120 hours, Bent County Deputies were dispatched to the 400 block of Ash Ave, to a report of an intoxicated and suicidal male party with a gun that was threatening to harm other individuals. Deputies responded to the residence and attempted to make contact with the occupants inside and nobody answered the door. Deputies forced entry into the residence due to an unknown subject yelling inside and the fact that the party had previously made homicidal threats to a family member. Deputies were clearing the residence when a single gunshot was fired from another room. Deputies found that a male party had a single self-inflicted gunshot wound. Deputies contacted the Las Animas Ambulance Service and the Bent County Coroner. The subject was pronounced deceased at the scene. The second occupant, a family member, was found to be unharmed.
